Definition, Theory and Hypothesis

When we refer to a definition we may refer to:
  a) The description and meaning of a word or subject
  b) Properties based of the characteristics of a certain subject

In other words to refer to a definition means to search for a simple, basic yet concrete explanation of a subject.

A Theory is a hypothesis that has passed through the rigors of the scientific method. A theory isn't an absolute assertion of a specific idea. A theory can be confirmed, re-proven, expanded or refuted through experimentation and observation.According the Karl Raymond Popper a good theory is the one that can refuted and still hold. This means that a good theory is the one that can constantly evolve. Popper also states that modern theories are actually just amendments of  previous theories, that didn't hold under certain circumstances, the new "theory" provides the older theory with an upgrade so to speak.

A hypothesis, is the idea or batch of ideas that explain a certain situation that is yet to be proven. The basis of scientific knowledge comes from hypothesizing. Unlike a theory a hypothesis has yet to be proven and is just the theoretical basis for the theory to come.
